Lighthouse Tour

Our day began with some drama. A little bird was trapped in the garage. Not really trapped because the door was wide open. But, our feathered friend was fixated on the window, which was shut. Happy ending, though. With the help of a gentle broom, Doug encouraged the birdie toward the gaping outdoors. And, there was Mama bird, who immediately fed this little fella. Miracles all around us. It was a picture-postcard day. We drove the Lighthouse Route to Peggy’s Cove, Mahone Bay and Lunenberg, with a brief stop at the Swiss Air 111 Memorial site. ( Coincidently the anniversary of this tragedy is today, Sept. 2) Peggy’s Cove was much prettier than I remembered. Doug and I visited here on our honeymoon in ‘76 or on a rather dreary, cursed-by rain Maritime holiday in ‘78, when a huge low pressure system followed us from Toronto to Maine and then back to Atlantic Canada. We can’t remember which trip included P.C. Doesn’t matter. This day Peggy’s Cove sparkled. We had an ice cream cone at picturesque Mahone Bay. Lunenberg was a highlight for Doug. Turns out Lunenberg is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the best surviving example of a British colonial street-grid town. Settled by Germans. Tonight we dined at Swiss Chalet Chicken.. I know this eatery is not everyone’s cup of tea but, I am a fan And, I was heartbroken when it pulled out of BC. I need my chicken fix! Not lobster rolls, not clams…just BQ chicken!

    1. Lots of different birds here. We even confused one chirp - thinking it was our smoke alarm , calling for a new battery!

  3. We loved Mahone Bay and Chester when we were there on our first wedding anniversary, 2003. Lunenburg was beautiful. So nice relive our trip there while reading yours. Thanks. M&N
